The Department of Arts and Culture and the Mpumalanga Provincial Government invite members of the media to the commemoration of the 20 th anniversary of the Samora Machel tragedy.
On 19 October 1986, President Samora Machel of Mozambique and 34 of his colleagues and comrades died in a plane crash near the Lebombo mountains in Mbuzini, Mpumalanga.
The Minister of Arts & Culture, Dr. Z. Pallo Jordan has appointed the new Board of the National Arts Council with effect from Tuesday 1st August – 9 women and 15 men!
Many of these are new members who are expected to introduce a breath of fresh air into the operations of the NAC.
The Minister of Arts and Culture, Dr Pallo Jordan invites members of the media to a briefing on preparations for the commemoration of the 1956 Women’s Anti-Pass March to the Union Buildings. The briefings will includes issues such as the re-enactment of the march, high profile marchers, submission of memorandum to the Deputy President, media accreditation, unveiling of an exhibition by the President Mbeki, safety and security, etc.
Members of the film and video community, and the general public are hereby invited to attend interviews for members for Council of the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), as per requirement of the National Film and Video Foundation Act, 1997 (Act 73 of 1997).
The Minister of Arts & Culture, Dr. Z. Pallo Jordan will launch two new publications, ‘Imida’and ‘Umthi Ngamnye Unentlaka Yawo’ in the government-sponsored initiative to promote writing and reading in the indigenous Xhosa language.
The event to will see the launch of ‘Imida,’ a collection of Xhosa essays and ‘Umthi Ngamnye Unentlaka Yawo’, an anthology of Xhosa short stories. This will take place at the Gugas’thebe Community Cultural Centre, Washington Avenue in Langa township from 2pm on Saturday, 24 February 2006.
