Africa Clockwise is the name of the epic journey comedian Mark Sampson and his family are set to undertake around the circumference of the continent from 2013 to 2015. The two year journey is structured as one year encompassing the African continent’s west coast and another year encompassing the east coast. Travelling in a giant 10-ton truck called the Green Bandwagon; it will be the first trek to use cooking oil to circumnavigate the African continent.

This year the Department of Arts and Culture, the City of Tshwane and the Africa Institute of South Africa celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Organisation of African Unity (OAU) under the theme “2013, Year of Pan-Africanism and African Renaissance”.

This series of events will provide a platform to forge closer links and partnerships among African communities to promote social cohesion, build a common identity and a sense of belonging for all people of the continent.

The Arts and Culture Minister, Paul Mashatile will on Thursday the 16th of May 2013 announce his budget plan as part of annual planning process. Together with his Deputy Minister Dr Joe Phaahla, the minister will outline the budget plan and strategy for the financial year.

The department is expected to present the purpose of their budget vote in Parliament. The purpose of this annual process is to reflect on the work done, and the achievement of the previous term as well as to articulate plan for 2013/14

Arts and Culture Minister, Mr Paul Mashatile, will pay a special visit to Ray Alexander Simons Memory Centre as part of his support for the arts, culture and heritage projects. This takes place on the eve of his Department’s Budget Vote on Wednesday, 15 May 2013 in Gugulethu Township, Cape Town.

The National Department of Arts and Culture in collaboration with the IndiZA Foods Company will host the South African Indigenous Food Competition. This grand finale will take place on Saturday the 11th of May at AB Phokombe High School, Mohlakeng, at Randfontein, Johannesburg.

The Department of Arts and Culture and the provincial archives will host a National Archives and Heraldry Awareness Week from 18-23 May 2009. The Archives and Heraldry Awareness Week is aimed at creating public awareness and appreciation of keeping records as part of the preservation of memories, history and heritage. We believe that the availability of and access to archival material plays a significant role in nation building and social cohesion.
