Dr. Joe Phaahla, Deputy Minster of Arts and Culture, will launch South African Library Week at the Centre of the Book, Queen Victoria Street, Cape Town on Saturday 19 March 2011. Library Week will be from the 19th to the 26th March with the theme, “Read in your language @ your library”.
The Department of Arts and Culture supports the Library Week as we promote reading and publishing in all South African languages.
Members of the media are invited to the Cape Town leg of the activation event for the “Magnificent Fridays” campaign. Magnificent Fridays campaign is an initiative of the Department of Sport and Recreation South Africa intended to galvanize the entire nation to stand behind their sports heroes and help them achieve their best in the respective international tournaments scheduled for 2011. The tournaments are for Cricket, Netball and Rugby. The tournaments for both Cricket and Rugby are World Cups while that of Netball is the World Championships.
The Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr. Paul Mashatile, invites media to the launch of the New Plays Writing Programme at Wits University, Johannesburg, on Tuesday 25 January 2011. The programme is a partnership between the Department of Arts and Culture (DAC), Wits University, the British Council and Sustained Theatre (UK).
In the spirit of transparency and good corporate governance, the Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Paul Mashatile invites members of the media and public to attend the National Arts Council Board selection interviews. The interviews started on 07 and will continue until 09 December 2010.
The Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Paul Mashatile invites members of the media to a briefing on the Albert Luthuli Memorial Lecture. The Minister will also touch on the 50th anniversary of Luthuli’s Nobel Peace Prize. The lecture is a project of the Department of Arts and Culture, the Albert Luthuli Foundation, the Luthuli Museum and the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

The Council of Arab Ambassadors in conjunction with the Department of Arts and Culture will host an Arab Culture Week, which will be held in Pretoria and Johannesburg from the 25th to the 29th of October 2010.
The events of this Cultural Week include art, music, handcraft exhibitions, photography, and lectures. All of these events will be held in Pretoria and Johannesburg.
The Minister of Arts and Culture, Ms. Lulu Xingwana will hold a meeting with representatives of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies to discuss matters of mutual interest on 15 October 2010. Members of the media are invited to a press conference that the Minister and the South African Board of Deputies will jointly address after the meeting.
