Arts and Culture Minister, Mr Nathi Mthethwa will on Sunday, 22 July 2018 officially open the 3rd BRICS Film Festival at Playhouse Company in Durban, KwaZulu Natal as part of the 10th international BRICS Summit.

Hosted through the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), an agency of the Department of Arts and Culture, BRICS film festival is aimed at celebrating world-class film productions from the BRICS countries, with the objective of inspiring more collaborations from these nations.

As the year 2018 completes the first decade of the BRICS Summit, South Africa will in the month of July host the 10th BRICS Summit and the 3rd BRICS Film Festival. As a member of BRICS, the South African Government through the Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) will take over the responsibilities of hosting the 3rd BRICS Film Festival from 22 – 27 July at Playhouse in Durban, KwaZulu Natal. The festival will take place during the Durban International Film Festival (DIFF).

Arts and Culture Minister, Mr Nathi Mthethwa will on Wednesday, 18 July 2018 dedicate his  67 minutes to uMthwalume High School, Durban as part  of Nelson Mandela Day Celebrations.

During his visit, Minister Mthethwa will  donate 67 Wheelchairs to underprivileged and unrecognised living legends to promote nation building and social cohesion. Later, the Minister will hold a lecture with the grade 11 and 12 learners on Mandela’s contribution to the struggle for democracy internationally and the promotion of a culture of peace throughout the world

Members of the media are invited to the BRICS roundtable discussion to be held under the theme “BRICS in Africa: Collaboration for Inclusive Growth and Shared Prosperity in the 4th Industrial Revolution”.

The content will focus of South Africa’s achievements within BRICS and desired outcomes from Chairing the 10th BRICS Summit. The roundtable will be followed by a media tour.

The Arts and Culture Minister, Mr Nathi Mthethwa  hosts a delegation of 26 African Ministers of Arts and Culture for the 2nd Ministerial Roundtable discussions on African public libraries and  Information Access.

The Roundtable of African Ministers is taking place from 5-6 July 2018 at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Durban in KwaZulu Natal as a culmination of the 3rd African Public Libraries Summit. The African Union (AU) Head of Culture Division, Ms Angela Martins, will deliver keynote address.

The Department of Arts and Culture in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Museum will host a Panel discussion on freedom and democracy, through critical interrogation of the biographies of Mandela and Mme Sisulu. The panel discussion will offer a dialogic platform for critical reflection on (a) the journey and pain in the road to freedom, (b) some of the notable gains made since the advent of freedom and democracy in 1994 (c) some of the faultlines of the current constitutional democratic project, and (d) and how these faultlines could be mitigated.
