The Sport, Arts and Culture Minister, Mr. Nathi Mthethwa invites members of the media to the launch of Freedom Month on Wednesday, 07 April 2021 at the Tshepong Sports Facility, Verkeerdevlei, in the Free State Province.

The 2021 Freedom Month Launch is hosted under the theme, “THE YEAR OF CHARLOTTE MAXEKE: THE MEANING OF FREEDOM UNDER COVID-19”, in tribute to the 150th anniversary of the liberation struggle heroin and human rights campaigner, Charlotte Maxeke.

Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa will give a memorial lecture to honour Solomon Kalushi Mahlangu's memory, spirit and the ideals for which he paid the ultimate price. He died for the ideals of a free and equal society.

The memorial lecture to be delivered virtually is one of the events organised by the Solomon Kalushi Mahlangu Family Trust for the 42nd Solomon Kalushi Mahlangu Commemoration. The theme of the Commemoration is “Resilience is Power”.

In line with the declaration of the year, 2021 as the year for Arts, Culture and Heritage at the 33rd African Union Summit of Heads of States and Governments, the Government of South Africa led by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) in partnership with the African World Heritage Fund (AWHF), Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), as well as the department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), will host a virtual meeting on Sites of Memory and World Heritage Convention in Africa, culminating in an Inter-Ministerial Meeting from 6 - 9 April 2

The Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, invites members of the media to a briefing to give an update on the Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme (PESP), which was designed to act as an aggressive injection of income into the creative economy.

The PESP aims to assist practitioners and their projects, including companies that incurred losses during the COVID-19 lockdown period.

The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture will on Thursday, 25 March 2021 host a panel discussion to continue the conversation on Human Rights from the perspective of health, the use of Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) and modern medicine in the battle against the pandemic. The event takes place at the Nelson Mandela Museum, Bhunga Building in Mthatha, Eastern Cape.

The Deputy Minister for Sport, Arts and Culture, Ms Nocawe Mafu in partnership with Eastern Cape Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture MEC, Ms. Fezeka Nkomonye and Buffalo City Metro, Executive Mayor Xola Pakati will host a weeklong outreach programme from 15-19 March 2021 in Duncan Village and Mdantsane. The weeklong programme is dedicated to remembering past human rights violations in these areas.
