Members of the media are invited to a function to officially welcome the Chongqing Artistic Troupe as they tour South Africa. The tour is part of the 10th Anniversary celebrations of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of South Africa and the People’s Republic of China.

The Chongqing Artistic Troupe, which comes from the city of Chongqing in China, is comprised of a combination of acrobatic, folk traditional and opera performers. Each group is led by some of China’s most respected artists in their respective disciplines. The acrobatic team has won international awards in the past. The traditional music group will play an instrument called “erhu” while the opera group will play both Chinese and South African songs. The event provides an opportunity to showcase the rich Chinese culture and consolidate cultural relations between the two countries. The Chongqing Artistic Troupe will also be performing in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.
