Arts and Culture Deputy Minister, Rejoice Mabudafhasi will hoist a flag and lead Mandela Month activities on Tuesday, 22 July 2014 at Zamimpilo Special School, Ceza Village, in Ulundi Local Municipality, Kwa-Zulu Natal.

In 2009, the United Nation`s General Assembly declared 18 July, which is Dr Nelson Mandela’s birthday, the ‘Nelson Mandela International Day in recognition of the liberation icon’s role for a free and united south Africa.

“Tata” Mandela spent 67 years of his life actively devoted to promoting social change, rather than revenge and violence.

In response to the clarion call of Mandela slogan:  “Take Action. Inspire Change. And Make Every Day a Mandela Day,” Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi adopted Zamimpilo Special School in Ceza village. The school caters for 105 learners with special needs. Upon adoption of the school she commissioned a needs assessment which identified that there is a dire need of the following: class rooms; desks, chairs and tables; blankets, sensory room equipment; TV; fence; workshops for skills development; toilets and specialized computers with voices synthesizers.

During her visit Mabudafhasi will hand-over the donated items and announce pledges by good Samaritans who heeded this call. 

The Deputy Minister will also hoist a flag at Zamimpilo Special School as part of the department’s Flag in all schools campaign aimed at popularizing the national flag, national anthem, the constitution and national symbols to instil a national identity.

Deputy Minister of Water Affairs and Sanitation, Ms Pam Tshwete, District Mayor of Zululand Municipality, Cllr Hlatshwayo, Ulundi Local Municipality, Cllr Manana will join the Deputy Minister during the Mandela Month activities such as cleaning and painting at Zamimpilo Special School.
