Minister Mashatile to mark commencement for the construction of Nwamitwa Cultural Village

The Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Paul Mashatile and the Premier of Limpopo Mr Stanley Mathabatha will attend a sod turning ceremony to mark the beginning of construction of Nwamitwa Cultural Village. The ceremony will take place on Thursday, 17 April 2014 at Nwamitwa village next to Tzaneen in Limpopo Province.

The Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) supports the project financially. Cultural villages are a growing phenomenal in the South African Cultural and Heritage landscape. They document communities’ unique cultures and traditions.

The envisaged cultural village will showcase the N’wamitwa culture and history by promoting their living heritage while the historical museum will display elements of the broader XiTsonga culture. This initiative will include space for accommodation, a craft exhibition space, a coffee shop, a restaurant and health spa will complete the products delivered.

The project is part of government’s rural community development programme as well as the Department of Arts and Culture’s heritage preservation and promotion. Members of the media are invited
