Minister Mthethwa to unveil the new name for the National English Literary Museum

The Minister of Arts and Culture Mr Nathi Mthethwa invites members of the media to the unveiling of the new name of the national English Literary Museum in Makhanda on the 06 may 2019.

In 2010 the Department of Arts and Culture indicated that it wished to explore widening the scope of the National English Literary Museum (NELM) to include the literatures of the historically disadvantaged languages of South Africa.

This was taken into account in the planning of the museum’s new premises, which provided for additional space for collections’ storage and the increase of the staff establishment to develop, curate and present exhibitions and educational programmes on the expanded mandate.
