The Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Nathi Mthethwa invites media to the official opening of the R6m KwaNonqaba Library in Mossel Bay, Western Cape Province. The event will take place on Friday, 27 June 2014. The Minister will speak about the Department of Arts and Culture’s ambitious “One Library in Every Ward” plan as well as the importance of libraries in the development of society. KwaNonqaba library is part of a Thusong Centre in the Mossel Bay Municipality.

Through this initiative, a significant number of job opportunities for the community of Mosselbay were created. This facility will also benefit the broader Mosselbay community by promoting a culture of reading, life-long learning and literacy as well as enhancing early childhood development. The Department of Arts and Culture leads government’s objective of promoting the culture of reading and writing as well as access to information. By so doing, we hope that by 2030, we would have contributed to the creation of an empowered society that is well-equipped to take charge of its development and thus contribute to the realisation of the objectives of the National Development Plan.
