South Africa Algeria Cultural Seasons programme continues in Algiers

As part of the buildup programme towards the event, there will be screening of Mandela’s Gun film at the Opera of Algiers on 28 February 2017 at 18:00. Lead role of Mandela is played for the first time by a South African actor, Tumisho Masha, who is already in Algiers for the screening. This film is based on uncovered information on Nelson Mandela's journey through Africa, with a Makarov pistol, given to him by Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie in 1962. Some of the movie episodes were shot in Algeria. The Algerian Democratic Government played a pivotal role during the liberation struggle of South Africa.

“the Department of Arts and Culture has a responsibility to improve economic and other development opportunities for South African arts and culture nationally and globally through mutually beneficial partnerships, thereby ensuring the sustainability of the sector”, said Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi.

The Cultural Seasons in Algiers continue to attract the Algerian public who want to experience the South African artistic culture. The opening night took place at the Palace of Culture on Friday, 24 February 2017 and audiences young and old came in numbers to view the South African exhibition works - craft, fashion, culinary including OR Tambo documentary screening. They were also indulged with performances by Soweto All Stars and Micasa.

Speaking during the official opening of the event, the South African Ambassador in Algeria, Mr Dennis Dlomo said, “The cultural season seeks to unite Africans through the length and breadth of the continent and it seeks to showcase what South Africa has to offer, but more importantly to build on what we have so that we as African can indeed see the unity of Africa.”

The seasons programme continues until 03 March 2017 and the exhibitions are open for viewing at the Bastion. Tonight, DJ Bobsta and Marimba group will be performing at the House of Culture in Kolea, Tipaza Province from 18:00 and 02 March, they will be performing in Boumerdes. Last night, Busiswa and Marimba group gave a thrilling performance at the Salle Ibn Zeydoun. The closing concert will take place at 17:00 on 03 March at the Grand Post Office where Khuli Chana, Busiswa, Bobsta will be performing.
