Operation Winter Warm was in full swing in Alexandra, Johannesburg in the early hours of the morning of Friday 10 May 2013.

Minister Paul Mashatile, together with representatives of the South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) and Al Imdaad Foundation, had their hands full donating hats and gloves to 1 400 children at Zenzeleni Primary School, before heading to central Johannesburg where they distributed a further 1 000 blankets to elderly persons.

It was a happy occasion for those who benefited from the gesture of social responsibility and humanitarian effort, made possible by Al Imdaad Foundation, a non-a profit organisation helping poor communities around the world. The foundation is planning to distribute over 65 000 blankets this winter and about 130 wards have been identified in Alexandra to receive blankets.

The Minister thanked the foundation for the humanitarian service it provides to the people of South Africa and urged other organisations to get involved in such generous programmes to help government provide services to people in need.
