Minister Mashatile signs Cultural Agreement with Minister Barghouty of Palestine

Speaking at the signing of a cultural agreement between the Republic of South Africa and the State of Palestine, Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Paul Mashatile, said that today marks an important day as we “strengthen the bonds of friendship and solidarity between the people of Palestine and South Africa”.

Speaking notes by Minister Mashatile on the occasion of the signing of the Cultural agreement between the Republic of South Africa and Palestine

Minister Mashatile and Minister Ms Siham Mohammad Abdel Salam Barghouty Today we mark an important day in our ongoing endeavors to strengthen the bonds of friendship and solidarity between the people of Palestine and South Africa. In particular on this day we are cementing people to people contact between our countries, by signing an agreement on cooperation in the fields of arts and culture. As we know arts and culture are an expression of who we are as people. They are an expression of our aspirations, our dreams and our hopes as well as our shared destiny.

The Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Paul Mashatile will host the Palestinian Minister of Culture, Ms Siham Mohammad Abdel Salam Barghouty for the signing of a Cultural Agreement between the two countries scheduled of 1 February 2012.

Partnership to boost support for youth in Arts, Culture and Heritage Sector

The Department of Arts and Culture and the National Youth Development Agency have joined forces to support young South Africans with an ambition to excel in the Arts, Culture and Heritage Sector. On Friday, 27 January 2012, the two parities will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will signify the start of a partnership that aims to enhance the employability of youth in the Arts, Culture and Heritage Sector through the Trendsetter Initiative.

Azikhwelwa- the Alexandra bus boycott comes to stage

The Department of Arts and Culture, Ko Pitseng Productions and Victory Theatre proudly present Azikhwelwa a musical production based on the 1950’s Alexandra Bus Boycott. The musical focuses on how residents participated and were affected by the boycott. It captures dialogues and debates between political figures from varying organizations, jazz lovers, journalists and the soft sides of human beings caught in the milieu of poverty, hope and courage.
