Members of the media are invited to attend the Official Memorial Service of the internationally renowned liberation struggle stalwart and South Africa’s National Poet Laureate, Keorapetse “Bra Willie” Kgositsile, who passed away on Wednesday, 3 January, after a short illness. The Official Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, 11 January 2018 at the Johannesburg City Hall in Gauteng.

“It has come as a shock to hear of the passing of the composer and guitarist, Errol Dyers,” said Minister Nathi Mthethwa. His name is synonymous with that brand of African jazz called Goema. He kept alive the rich musical culture of the people who had lived in District 6 prior to their forced removal to far-flung places on the Cape Flats.

Born with the name Billy Mothola Emmanuel Mashiloane, Iko hailed from Meadowlands, Soweto and learnt at an early age that he was different from others, embracing female dress.
