The existence of the Pan South African Language Board derives its mandate from the primary law of the land, the 1996 Constitution of the Republic of South Africa. Section 6, of chapter one, the Constitution says the following amongst others: “A Pan South African Language Board established by national legislation must promote, and create conditions for, the development of all languages…”

Minister Mthethwa held urgent consultative meetings with the Cultural and Sports sectors respectively on 17 Mar. The purpose of the consultations was to share vital information on the status of the Coronavirus in South Africa, and assess the adverse consequences for both industries, with a view of making proposals to mitigate the impact thereof.
