The Minister of Arts & Culture has told Parliament that the amount spent to produce and distribute the Department’s annual report was only R250 000.

He was responding to a question asked by the Democratic Alliance’s spokesperson for arts and culture, Ms Desiree van der Walt.

Minister Jordan went on to explain that the tabling of the Department was delayed this year as the responsibility for its production had been moved from one directorate to another.

In fact, the Department annual report is in production. It is hoped that the cost will not exceed R250 000 for 1 500 copies which will cost approximately R166 per unit.

Also, Minister Jordan spoke about the costs of annual reports of the 27 Institutions that report to the Department which were produced and distributed in 2006/2007 and 2007/2008.

He said the actual costs ranged from approximately R223, 000 to R4, 500 for producing 1,800 to 575 copies.

Significantly, the cost per unit ranged from approximately R250 to R8.

Most of these Annual Reports were distributed to Parliament, fraternal bodies, media and public.
