Archives and Heraldry Awareness Week

The National Archives and Records Service of South Africa will host the Annual Archives and Heraldry Awareness Week from 17-21 May 2010. The archives week is aimed at inculcating an appreciation of our history and heritage among all South Africans in an effort to foster nation building and social cohesion.

Since 1994 archives have played an important role in deepening and strengthening our democratic dispensation, by promoting efficient, accountable and transparent, evidence-based governance.

This year the archives week happens on the eve of the biggest sporting event, the Fifa Soccer World Cup. Hence, the theme is: our archives, our stories: preserving our soccer heritage. Members of the public are invited to come and learn more about archival functions and services and most importantly the preservation of South Africa’s documentary heritage.

Members of the public who are interested in visiting the National Archives during the archives week should contact Mr Thabang Khanye on 012 441 3239.

Media enquiries: Eric Mudzanani on 082 940 0927 or 012 441 3737
