The Minister of Arts and Culture, Ms Lulu Xingwana invites media to a ceremony to announce the new board for the Downtown Music Hub initiative. The historic Downtown Studios were bought just over a year ago by the Department of Arts and Culture. It is the intention of the department, in conjunction with the music industry, to develop this iconic building and its facilities into a state-of-the-art local content music production hub that will produce high quality content for the market place.

The music in industry is still characterised by the dominance of few multi-national companies especially in areas of production, mastering, manufacturing, warehousing and distribution and thus forming strong barriers for local producers to enter these territories. This initiative is the intended to help stimulate local industry and contribute to the transformation of the music industry.
