Department of Arts and Culture holds an indaba with visual artists

The Department of Arts and Culture will host a two-day (25-26 October 2012) Visual Arts Indaba-Towards a Visual Arts Framework at the Cedar Park Conference Centre, Woodmead, Johannesburg. The purpose of the Visual Arts Indaba is to report back to the sector on the findings of the research and create a platform for government and the sector and government to jointly review and finalise the recommendations of the Report.

The indaba will discuss topics such as Policy and Advocacy, Funding, Skills Development & Training, Promotion & Marketing as well as Institutions & Heritage. The recommendations to be presented are centred on these topics. Participants include artists, curators, arts, culture and heritage unions and organisations, galleries and auction houses, public and government art museums, NGO’s and support organisations tertiary and education institutions and many others. Members of the media are invited to attend.

9:30 – 11:00 Presentation on the research commissioned by DAC and the relevant statistics – Research Team, Joseph Gaylard and Dr Gerard Hagg
11:00- 11:30 Purpose of the indaba and roll out of the activities/program for the two days - DAC, Ms Veliswa Baduza
