Art workMinister of Arts and Culture, Mr Paul Mashatile launched the Heritage Month during a media briefing on Monday 3 September 2013 in Sandton. The theme for this year's Heritage Month is “Reclaiming, restoring and celebrating our heritage”.

Prior to 1994 our museums and monuments were accessible only to a few and reflected the experiences and political ideals of the minority. Through this theme the DAC seeks to reaffirm and promote Liberation Heritage as an integral part of South Africa`s living heritage to the youth, in particular the “born free” generation.

Arts and Culture Minister, Paul Mashatile,  is set to participate in a high level thematic debate on “Culture and Development” to be hosted on Wednesday 12 June 2013, at the 67th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Convened by the President of the General Assembly, Vuk Jeremić, in cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, the debate will discuss how culture can be used as an enabler and driver for development.  It’s hoped the discussions will feed into talks on the Post 2015 global development agenda.
