This year’s Heritage Month is dedicated to the “celebrating the heroes and heroines of the liberation struggle.”

It is a year in which homage is paid to all heroes and heroines who played a pivotal role in the emancipation of South African society. Liberation Heritage evolves around the preservation, conservation, promotion and sustenance of the history, cultures and traditions of the monumental struggle against all forms of oppression, injustice and widespread inequality.

 

The theme “Celebrating Heroes and Heroines of the Liberation Struggle in South Africa” means that this year’s tribute serves as a measurement device of how far we have come in terms of achieving freedom, independence, self-reliance and self-determination from the shackles of political, economic and socio-cultural enslavement..... read more here

 

 
     
     
 

The National Book Week, 5–10 September 2011, is a major reading promotion initiative across South Africa. Now in its second year of running, the campaign has received endorsements from a wide range of stakeholders and people from different walks of life.

First established in September 2010 by a DAC entity, the South African Book Development Council (SABDC), National Book Week aims to promote a culture of reading and writing. DAC DIVAS
QUEST FOR GLORY

They came, they saw and they conquered with a song performed with passion, willpower and confidence. The packed DAC function room was entertained and applauded the performance. It was at the occasion to mark the 100 Days of the new Director-General Mr Sibusiso Xaba. The song that stirred the crowds was ‘Plea for Africa’ composed by John Knox Bokwe. It was a rendered as a plea to God to bless the Department of Arts and Culture under the new leadership.
