An unmistakable South African culture and identity with a strong link to the climate change theme will run like a golden thread through the cultural exhibition mounted by the DAC at COP17.

In fact, the DAC aims to present an exhibition that will be the heart and soul of the Climate Change Response Expo that will be managed by the Department of Environmental Affairs.

This marks an important collaboration between the DAC and DEA to highlight and mainstream the link and role of arts, culture and heritage in matters relating to climate change.

Artists use their talent and skills to heighten awareness about the effects of natural and man-made disasters caused by climate change .

 

In fact, we will mount an exhibition that will link the various elements and themes, including an exhibition on the origins of mankind, crafts, national symbols, indigenous music instruments and national orders. The design will allow for all these elements to flow naturally into each other with a climate change thematic focus.

The arts, culture and heritage sector is poised to make a resounding statement about its role in creating awareness about climate change and encouraging people to save the earth

The thrust of the programme will be to relay the key messages of the Department of Arts & Culture's new strategic direction aptly dubbed Mzansi's Golden Economy. Its essence is to highlight and mainstream the role and contribution of the arts to the economy. CULTURAL VIBE

The City of Durban and strategic corners of the country will come alive with a soul-nourishing cultural programme that will not only welcome visitors to COP17 but celebrate the country's arts, culture and heritage and its relevance to climate change.

With just a few days to go before the opening on 28 November, the DAC Task team is working frantically to finalise the programme.

 

 

THE CULTURAL EXPOSITION OF COP17

In a significant development, the DAC has invited individual artists and organisations to submit proposals that will not only ignite a unique cultural vibe around eThekwini but foreground the role of arts, culture and heritage in the economy through the MGE launch.

This event will take place in Durban to be addressed by the Minister, Mr Paul Mashatile at an event that will attract media, relevant stakeholders and other movers and shakers in the sector.....read more here
