JUST PLAYING AROUND

 
 
 
 

Members of the Arts and Culture fraternity and the general public were invited to nominate suitable candidates, to be considered by the Minister of Arts and Culture, to serve as council members for the following playhouses:

  • The New Councils of the South African State Theatre (Pretoria);
  • The Market Theatre Foundation (Johannesburg);
  • The Windybrow Theatre (Johannesburg);
  • Artscape (Cape Town);
  • The Playhouse Company (Durban), and
  • The Performing Arts Centre of the Free State (Bloemfontein)

Shortlisted candidates subsequently replaced the outgoing council members whose term of office expired on the 31st July 2011. As council members, they would have to see to core functions, such as strategic leadership, management, employment of senior management, policy formulation, fundraising and long-term planning for the institution and corporate governance.

The inauguration and induction occurred on the 29th of September 2011 and 30 September 2011 respectively at the Premier Hotel, OR Tambo International Airport.
