The Minister of Arts and Culture meets the Jewish Board of Deputies

PRETORIA: Today the Minister of Arts and Culture, Ms Lulu Xingwana, met representatives of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies, Mr Zev Krengel, the National Chairman, and Ms Wendy Kahn, the National Director.

The South African Board of Deputies had requested the meeting with Minister Xingwana to address concerns of the Jewish community pertaining to allegations reported in the media.

Mr Zev Krengel said that: “In the true South African spirit of dialogue, the discussion was frank and honest and we at the Jewish Board are satisfied with the Minister and Department’s relationship with the Jewish community and the Jewish people”.

Minister Xingwana said that: “I reaffirm government’s policy of zero tolerance against anti-semitism and all forms of racism and bigotry.”

A commitment was expressed on both sides to continue to work together on social cohesion dialogues and programmes, moral regeneration and the Presidential National Dialogues.
