We gather here at this special and sacred Centre for the Book in Cape Town. It is one of those sacred sites where we find the minds, the ideas and literary products of some of the greatest writers that have been known to man. I believe their spirits are with us.

We have learnt with sadness and are still reeling in shock of the sudden and tragic passing on of talented Limpopo born gospel artist Mpho “Regalo” Gangashe. He passed away in a car accident together with his mother. May their Souls Rest in Peace.

I have noted that in 2015/16, the province will complete 2 libraries, i.e. Wepener and Oranjeville which are in rural areas, and libraries in Botshabelo, Bolakanang and Verkeerdevlei will be completed during the MTEF which will also provide a dual purpose function.

Since the inception of the grant, 78 new libraries have been built country wide. We acknowledge that there is still a huge backlog of library infrastructure in the Free State. However, progressively the backlog will be addressed.
