The Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa will host a media briefing to update the nation on the COVID-19 Relief Fund for the sector.
Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Freedom Day celebrations will be marked using online platforms.
Freedom Day, as South Africans know it, is very different this year. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed things from the norm.
The department reminds South Africans that under the current lock-down aimed at curbing the spread of the virus, gatherings are prohibited.
The theme for this year’s Freedom Month celebrations is solidarity and the triumph of the human spirit in these challenging times. President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the nation”
The Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa is today meeting stakeholders of both Sports and Arts Sectors. The consultations are as result of the COVID19 South Africa national disaster. Minister will brief both sectors on the Departments stance and decisions that have significant implications on the Sports, Arts and Culture industries.

The Ministry of Sports, Arts and Culture under the proficiency and leadership of Minister Nathi Mthethwa will this week commence with its series of Ministerial Roadshow. The roadhows are scheduled to visit all provinces of the Republic and are to be conducted in collaboration with the provincial departments. The Ministerial Arts and Culture Roadshow will be open to various sectoral stakeholders inclusive of artists, athletes, practitioners, managers, policy makers, and researchers from the sports, arts and culture.
Department of Arts and Culture in partnership with the KwaZulu Natal provincial Department for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, and PANSALB will host the International Mother Language Day Celebrations to promote cultural diversity and multilingualism. The celebrations will take place at Amangwe Village Sports Ground in KwaMbonambi, uMfolozi Municipality.
The Department of Sports, Arts and Culture will host the Social Compact Convention on the 6 - 7 February 2020 at Saint George Hotel as part of Social Cohesion and Nation Building Strategy. This compact represents a collective agreement between all South Africans on how to address major issues in our country through a united effort.
