Members of the media are requested to apply for accreditation for the 2018 National Human Rights commemorations under the theme, " The year of Nelson Mandela: promoting and deeping a human rights culture across society".
The event will take place on Wednesday, 21 March 2018 at George Thabe Cricket Pitch, Sharpville in Vereeniging.
Minister Nathi Mthethwa and its research arm, the South African Cultural Observatory (SACO), will open the SACO’s 2018 International Conference tomorrow. The conference starts on Wednesday 7 March at 9am and runs for two days at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, in Port Elizabeth.
International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated worldwide on 08 March. In some countries it has been declared a national holiday. South Africa has also celebrated it over the years especially post 1994. IWD is an opportunity for citizens of the world to conduct introspection with regards to women’s accomplishments and challenges.

The Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Nathi Mthethwa invites members of the media to the presentation of the final report on the transformation of the heritage landscape on Friday, 23 February at Freedom Park, Pretoria.
The report back is a result from a national consultative meeting that was convened by the Minister in 2015, following incidents of attacks on numerous pre and post 1994 statues across the country and a topical national debate on the issue. The incidents were sparked by the “Rhodes Must Fall” protests ignited by the University of Cape Town students.
The Deputy Minister of the Department of Arts and Culture, Ms Makhotso Maggie Sotyu, will be launching a Back to School national campaign to foster and promote Nation Building, Social Cohesion and moral regeneration in historically disadvantaged schools. The activities will also include National Identity competition amongst the schools that will form part of this event.
The Department of Arts and Culture in partnership with the Ngqushwa Local Municpality will host a Reconciliation Day developmental programme on Women and Youth in the Arts at Peddie Town Hall on the 16 December 2017 at 10h00. The activities will take place under the theme; “The Year of OR Tambo: Reconciliation through radical socio-economic transformation”.
Minister Nathi Mthethwa, in partnership with the National Museum, Bloemfontein is proud to announce the launch exhibition of the National Art Bank under the theme: “Emerging Visions: Towards a Sustainable Economic Development of the Visuals Arts.” The launch will take place on Tuesday, 12 December 2017 at the Oliewenhuis Art Museum, Bloemfontein in the Free State at 09h00 am.
The Deputy Minister of the Department of Arts and Culture, Ms Makhotso Sotyu will in partnership with the Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, Ms Pam Tshwete and local leadership host a community Imbizo on Arts and Culture and also commemorate the 16 Days of Activism against woman and children abuse.
The second-leg of Russia SA Cultural Seasons kick-starts at the Durban playhouse on the 28th November 2017 with the Oleg Lundstrem Jazz Orchestra of Russia and at the Communio Auditorium in Mbombela on the 29th November 2017.
