Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi to officiate the 1st Limpopo Media and Communicators Awards, 27 Nov
Mme Rejoice Mabudafhasi, MP, the Deputy Arts and Culture Minister, will officiate the 1st Limpopo Media and Communicators Awards on Thursday, 27 November 2014, at Peter Mokaba stadium, in Polokwane, Limpopo.
Premier of Limpopo, Mr Stan Mathabatha and MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Mme Nandi Ndalane are also expected to attend the awards ceremony.
The Limpopo Media and Communicators Awards is a project funded by the Department of Arts and Culture through the Mzansi Golden Economy (MGE). The MGE seeks to unleash the economic potential of the Arts, Culture and Heritage sector whilst creating a cross-sectoral strategic investment mechanisms to overcome significant challenges with regard to job creation, market and audience development, skills development and research identified through sector research processes and also consultation processes with creative industry practitioners, businesses and organisations.
The Limpopo Media and Communicators Awards aims to encourage community journalists\community media houses that despite their plight of lack of resources they travel the length and breadth of the province in a quest to tell a story. These beneficiaries are contributing to the creative sector and are based in rural areas where there is lack or no development at all. The community media plays a pivotal role in promoting the arts, culture, heritage, nation building and social cohesion.
“It is clear that as those whose calling is to promote and publicise arts and culture, we cannot do without those whose job is to communicate this work to the people. The media has an important role to play to convey the arts, heritage and social cohesion to the people” said Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi.
The awards are hosted in partnership with the Department of Communications, Limpopo Provincial Government, Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, City of Polokwane, Old Mutual, Vodacom and Limpopo News.
