Today it is clear that South Africa will return to Göteborg Book Fair in an even more powerful initiative than previously planned for 2020. The commitment, which extends over three years, is announced in connection with South Africa’s Minister of Culture Nathi Mthethwa meeting Sweden’s Minister of Culture and Democracy Amanda Lind in a conversation about literature and reading, at 3 pm (GMT +1) in the program track Democracy (Demokratin) at Bokmässan Play.
Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, led by Minister Nathi Mthethwa will on 25 September 2020 at 15h00 partake in a virtual panel discussion with Sweden. This inventiveness is to launch a multi-year initiative towards the Gothenburg Book Fair.

On 13 March 2020, the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture met with the sectors to discuss challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of these consultations was to share vital information on the status of the Coronavirus in South Africa and to assess its adverse consequences, with a view to develop mitigation strategies thereof.

The recent decision of the Swiss Federal Court to uphold a decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding the IAAF (World Athletics) Regulations on Female Athletes with Differences of Sexual Development (DSD) is very unfortunate and offensive to the fundamental human rights of female athletes classified hyperandrogenic.
On 17, August 2020 Minister Sport, Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa, announced 2nd Wave COVID–19 Relief application process as a form of assistance to artists, athletes, technical personnel, fitness instructors / practitioners and the core ecosystem with the objective of softening the economic impact sparked by the COVID–19 Pandemic.
On 17, August 2020 Minister Sport, Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa, announced 2nd Wave COVID – 19 Relief application process as a form of assistance to artists, athletes, technical personnel, fitness instructors / practitioners and the core ecosystem with the objective of softening the economic impact sparked by the COVID – 19 Pandemic.
The Department is aware of the frustration and challenges that are faced by practitioners of the sector. Government is doing everything it can to minimise the impact of COVID-19 on the sector while protecting lives.
